We are so thrilled to chat with Rebecca Austill-Clausen, author of Change Maker: How my Brother’s Death Woke Up My Life. Here, Rebecca shares a few facts about herself and gives a sneak peak into her workspace!
Being able to communicate with my brother David after he died was my largest inspiration. This is a story that needs to be shared but I was scared people would think I was crazy…thus it took me 20 years to publish the story.
At least 10-12 books always including spiritual memoirs, self help spiritual guides, People magazine (I love People magazine!), a frayed blue covered book called The Happiness Project, One-Sentence Journal, a Five-Year Record (am on year 4 now), a relaxing book on fantasy sci fi, multiple Bic pens with the caps chewed, my iphone, clock, colorful lamp.
Me…not used to writing about me. I am traditionally a private person although have a big public persona. It was hard to make public my innermost thoughts.
The first time I saw David, riding my horse through a Christmas Tree farm…love the symbology of Christmas trees (happiness, joy, light, fun, cheer, family). It was a beautiful day, about 6 weeks after David died, and I thanked the universe for this glorious day. Closed my eyes and there was David! (chapter 2). Healthy, age early 30’s, wearing sandals, jeans, plaid red and black flannel shirt and we talked…sharing everything in just a few seconds by thought as I quickly realized there was no need to physically talk. Behind David was his best friend Edward who had also died, my grandparents who died about 10 years prior, Holly my friend who died in her 20’s from a car accident and about a dozen other people standing on a hill who had died too. That was the moment I realized we live forever and that my brother David was ALIVE! I also realized I didn’t need to accomplish all my goals in this lifetime as I have an eternity to accomplish everything I desire. This remains my most favorite scene in the book and one of the most favorite scenes of my life.
In my home office sparkling with sunlight overlooking a glorious white paper bark birch tree. Office overflows with books, crystals, fairy memento’s, brightly colored chandelier and lamps, hand painted cabinets and favorite knick nacks.
I love to attend music festivals, especially jam band scenes. I also love to scuba dive.
