This week, we are so excited to hear more from Jane Healey. Her new novel The Saturday Evening Girls Club is out now!
My favorite scene is the one where the friends are making Christmas deliveries for the pottery in Mrs. Storrow’s car. I feel like it really captures their friendship.
The two most challenging characters to write about were Helen Storrow and Edith Guerrier. These two women were the club’s actual mentors, and I wanted to make sure I captured the essence of who they were and honored their history and what they meant to the young women of the club.
My glasses, my Kindle and my phone.
Before I write a word, I do as much historical research as necessary to feel really comfortable with the time, place and events that I want to write about. I write the synopsis and/or “back of the book” first to get the essence of the story down. Then I write a detailed outline, and when I feel like the outline is solid then I start writing a draft.
The biggest inspiration was the true stories of the girls that I learned about through my research.
