Welcome back, Jane Porter!

We are excited to announce we are once again working with award-winning author Jane Porter!

Her newest novel, The Good Woman, will be the first in Jane’s new Brennan Sisters Trilogy. In The Good Woman, Meg Roberts is the eldest of the Brennan sisters and she is used to being in control and presenting an image of perfection to those around her. When Meg’s 43rd birthday approaches and she reflects on her 17 years of marriage, she realizes she wants something more–bringing her to embark on an affair that shatters her world. Her story is a revelation that real life is messy and while every woman’s choice to find happiness and self-acceptance may take a different path, many experiences and feelings are universal.

Author Spotlight

October is National Anti-Cyberbullying Awareness Month and to shed some light on the cause, meet two of our fiction authors who address the issue of bullying in their books. Ilie Ruby was inspired to write The Salt God’s Daughter after reading about stories of girls and women who had taken their lives after being subjected to bullying. In the story, we see the journey of discovery and survival one of the characters takes after becoming a victim of bullying.

Meg Mitchell Moore‘s So Far Away directly brings cyber-bullying to attention as the main character tries to escape from her former best friend’s online bullying tirade.

In addition, child psychologist Dr. M. Mark McKee, author of Raising a Successful Child, The Manual stresses the importance of empowering and teaching children to stand up to bullies on their own.

He explains, “While much has been written about how parents and schools can intervene to help reduce bullying in schools and the internet, it is equally important that we empower our children to stand up and protect themselves. This is not suggesting retaliatory physical responses, for indeed the majority of bullying behaviors are not physical.  Rather, children must also be taught to fend for themselves simply due to the fact that most bullies are extremely sneaky and their behaviors are often hard to catch.”

NEWS RELEASE

Seton Catholic Prep Proudly Presents New York Times Bestselling Author,
Motivational Speaker and Rwandan Holocaust Survivor

Immaculée Ilibagiza shares her inspirational story of faith, hope and forgiveness October 29 at St. Andrew the Apostle in Chandler

CHANDLER, Ariz.,

[Oct. 2, 2012]—Seton Catholic Preparatory High School announced today a special speaking engagement by Immaculée Ilibagiza, author of Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust at 7 p.m., Monday, October 29, 2012, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Faith Community at 3450 W. Ray Rd., in Chandler.

Regarded as one of the world’s leading speakers on peace, faith and forgiveness, Ilibagiza has shared her miraculous story with audiences from global dignitaries to school children of how she survived during the Rwanda genocide in 1994. She and seven other women huddled silently together in a cramped bathroom of a local pastor’s house for 91 days as most of her family was murdered. Ilibagiza credits her survival mostly to prayer and to a set of rosary beads given to her by her devout Catholic father prior to going into hiding. Through prayer, she eventually found it possible to forgive her tormentors and family’s murderers.

“We’re honored to welcome Immaculée to the Valley,” said David Sorkin, assistant principal at Seton Catholic Prep. “Her extraordinary story of survival and her universal message perfectly captures the charisms we try to instill in all of our students: determination, faith, courage and love.”

Tickets to Ilibagiza’s speaking engagement at St. Andrew the Apostle are $15 for general admission. Seating is limited. To purchase tickets online and for additional information, visit www.SetonCatholic.org.

Following Ilibagiza’s appearance at St. Andrew the Apostle on October 29, she’ll address a student assembly at Seton Catholic Prep on Tuesday, October 30, and will be the guest of honor at a business community luncheon at the Chandler Center for the Arts.
