Morticia Addams is quickly characterized by her lacy black gowns and scarlet lips, but her true beauty comes from her ability to defy societal norms.Though she is not your typical beauty queen, Morticia owns her peculiar personality.  She is not afraid to express this personality on the outside, and she creates a lifestyle that is reflective of her grim proclivities. Since her character’s first television appearance in 1964, viewers have come to love Morticia for her stark contrast with societal expectations for modern women.

Though Morticia is a mother of three eerily odd children and a wife to the often impulsive Gomez, she has goals and desires of her own. Fans of the family know that even during the most challenging moments, Morticia would go to bat for any one of her family members. Her loyalty is first to her family and the people she loves most, but she still enjoys the occasional seance and hellish crusade.

For anyone who has seen The Addams Family films and sitcoms, it’s no secret that Morticia Addams is hopelessly in love with her husband, Gomez. As a fierce leader in a brood of “altogether ooky” individuals, Morticia often rises to the role of the motivator and voice of reason. She will frequently support her husband in his impetuous pursuits and continuously encourages Wednesday and Pugsley to be the savage little children that they are. In fact, throughout Wednesday’s efforts to terrorize her brother (whether by electrocution or giant ax), Morticia is unfazed by her daughter’s fascination with mortality. She relates to Wednesday this way and empowers her to be true to who she is, only stepping in to supervise… or offer up a larger ax.

The members of the Addams family are known for appreciating the spookier things in life. Their idiosyncratic interests are what contrast them from the traditional family unit and make them unique. Morticia is no exception. There is little else she would like more than to take a late-night walk through the family graveyard or spend a miserably rainy evening bewitching her husband. These eccentric interests provide her with an affection for the mysteries in life and ultimately envigorate her badass witchery.
