We are so thrilled to chat with Jennifer Gooch Hummer, author of Operation Tenley. Here, Jennifer shares a few facts about herself and gives us a sneak peak into her workspace!
The scene where Tenley Tylwyth thinks she is at a cheerleader try-out but is actually at a spelling bee.

I collect hoard $2 bills. I am sure they will go out of print someday and then they will be worth $3. I’m pretty sure, anyway.

Action scenes are the hardest for me to write. I could marry dialogue; I love it that much. But action scenes with little or no dialogue make me want to take up weaving, or clean my house with a toothbrush. It’s torture. I have to rewrite and rewrite and rewrite to get to a point where I think the action scene is not completely laughable.

I am a true believer in Fairies. Not so much the kind that grant wishes for humans but the kind that watch over nature and animals – living things that don’t speak our language. So I believe there is an actual Mother Nature spirit—although maybe not in a purple jumpsuit—who is trying to save the planet from human destruction. Villains may be evil, but a good one feels justified in their motives.

When I’m writing a first draft, I force myself to write four pages a day. Even if they are so terrible I’m sure I will delete them the next day, I do it. That way at least I’ve killed off a few blank pages on the way to a first draft.
