What inspired your writing_

The need to tell a story that will ignite a reader’s imagination, one that will lift up and break their heart. The reader themselves is always my biggest inspiration.

dream vacation

A month in Kauai in a rental property just outside of Princeville, or a couple of months touring Europe.

whats-on-your-nightstandA pile of three to four books and a million empty water glasses. I’m totally the girl from Signs, only with a bad book hoarding habit.

what-would-you-take-on-survivor

A book. I could not live without a book, but it may be a book about how to get off Survivor.

5-authors-that-have-inspired-you

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. This was the original inspiration for Queen of Hearts, and Lewis Carrol’s whimsical, weird, hazy world was an easy jumping off point.

Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. Like Alice, I looked to the original text of Peter Pan for the inspiration for Wendy Darling. Upon reading the series as an adult, I was struck by how dark it was, and how there were so many questions raised inside the book itself about the nature of adulthood.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte – Dark and gothic, Jane Eyre was a great example of a slow burn romance and quiet character development.

The Song of Fire and Ice Saga by George R.R. Martin– George R.R Martin inspired my imagination and my scope. I lived in the Westeros world for probably six months, just learning.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer – Whatever you think about the books, Stephanie Meyer knows how to write things that make you feel like you, yourself, are falling in love.
