A stack of books so high I fear the imminent collapse of said nightstand. But teetering on top of that stack, The Longest Night: A Novel by Andria Williams, I’ll See You in Paris by Michelle Gable, and The 500 by Matthew Quirk.
I’m a people pleaser, which means I avoid conflict at all costs. As a result, I tend to get run over. Like if I’m served the wrong thing at a restaurant, I’ll just eat it rather than bring it to the server’s attention.

The Green Mile by Stephen King
Even though Stephen King and I aren’t even remotely in the same genre, he’s one of the masters in terms of craft. Really, The Green Mile should be required reading for every writer.
The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
These books remind me that there is no limit to the imagination, to just let go, and go for it!
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
This book is such a romp–adventure after adventure—and inspires the fun of writing action and adventure in my own novels.
Anything by Nora Roberts
She’s a beautiful writer, does romance better than anyone, and basically, she’s teaching me how to do it better.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
I include this because Stephenie is from my home state of Arizona, and after reading her books and learning about her path to publishing, I thought, “You know, maybe I can do this, too.”
