In this week’s Friday Five, we’re celebrating female authors! March 8 is International Women’s Day, which began in 1909. The staff at BookSparksPR has picked out our favorite women authors and some of our favorite books they’ve written. There are many great female authors and books written by females, but here’s just a few of our favorites.Ā

Allyson’s favorite female author is Laura Hillenbrand, who wrote Unbroken and Seabiscuit. Hillenbrand is a New York Times best-selling author and a winner of the Los Angeles Times Book of the Year Award for Nonfiction.

Our intern Sierra’s favorite woman author is Jodi Picoult, who is known for her courtroom novels. Picout is a New York Times best-selling author. Sierra’s favorite of Picoult’s books is My Sister’s Keeper, which was also made into a movie.

Erin’s favorite woman author is Emily Giffin, author of Something Borrowed. Her novels have been international best sellers and have appeared on USA Today‘s “USA 150 Top Books.”

Crystal said Joyce Carol Oates is one of her favorite female authors. We Were the Mulvaneys is one of her favorite novels by Oates.

Kim listed Margaret Atwood as one of her favorite female authors. Atwood is one of the most awarded authors of recent fiction. Kim’s favorite book of hers is The Robber Bride.
