Facebook is an unrelenting, permanent fixture in the scope of business, relationships and communication now.  Fan pages are leading the way in interactivity between businesses and customers.  Creating a fan page and getting fans, however, isn’t nearly as simple as it may seem.  A lot of work and attention must go into building a fan base and earning those “Likes.”

The Entreprenette Gazette, offered an interesting article, “How to build fans on Facebook,” on their site that offered over 100 tips on how to bolster your fan numbers.  Professionals in all kinds of entrepreneurial positions offered their best advice on how to make the most of your fan page.  I pulled out my 5 favorites, but there are tons more in the article.

#1 Sneak Peaks
Make being a fan worthwhile.  Offer behind the scenes information, pictures and maybe even videos.   Being privy to insider details is fun and will draw in the attention of others.

#2 Be Consistent
Post often.  Add pictures, update your status, share links.  Make sure you are continually giving people a reason to check you out.

#3 Multi-pronged Promotion
Try and get your Facebook page seen in as many ways as possible.  Put it in your email signature, share it on Twitter, link it in with your blog and connect it with YouTube.  The more places it is, the more people are likely to see it.

#4  Use Contests
It’s easy and maybe a little bit of a trick, but if people can be entered into a giveaway of some sort by hitting “Like” it will definitely increase your fan base.  The key to making this more legitimate is to post relevant content that will keep those fans around even after the contest is over.

#5  Interact Daily
Ask your fans questions, get to know what they like, let them have input is some of the decision making process.  The more communication going on between you and your fans/customers, the better your fan page and business will be.

Bonus: Do not only concern yourself with how many likes and comments are coming your way.  Get out there and comment on your fans posts and like their statuses too.  Social media is a two way street, make sure you are giving as much as you are getting.  It’s good Facebook Karma!
