David Gottfried is known as the father of the global green building movement:  founding both the U.S. Green Building Council and World Green Building Councils. No organizations have likely reduced global warming more or helped reduce ecological footprint. Gottfried’s work started a global industry with approximately 15 billion square feet of green buildings, millions of professionals and hundreds of billions of commerce.

Gottfried serves as the CEO of Regenerative Ventures. The company serves as an incubator and business development accelerator for disruptive green building technologies and its own Regen organizations. Regenerative Network is a private business-to-business consortium of about 20 exclusive green building product manufacturing and service companies, many of them venture capital backed, raising an aggregate of approximately $500 million. RN helps advance emerging products, systems and technologies (game-changers) that offer enhanced financial returns, while accelerating global transformation

Gottfried is now incubating Regen360, expanding his Life Balance SheetÔ green life rating system into an online video training and Live events in 2014. Applying the LBS framework across one’s life yields incredible financial and life-altering transformative returns. It provides a personal strategic plan to help define and ROCK your mission and create legacy.

Gottfried had previous tenures as a real estate developer and construction manager, and has served as a sustainable building strategic adviser since 1995. His career spans 30 years serving the global building industry.

In 1992, David Gottfried founded the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to formalize the definition and adoption of green building practices via an industry coalition model (the first in the world). David also drafted the white paper providing the vision for the LEED® green building rating system-now being utilized in 130 countries. USGBC is comprised of 15,000 member organizations and 80 regional chapters. It is the driving force of the green building industry and likely one of the fastest growing non-profits in the world with a staff of 250. LEED has 180,000 LEED Accredited Professionals and is being used by approximately 10 billion square feet of projects.

In 1998, Gottfried expanded his GBC vision globally by founding the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC). The WorldGBC comprises the global green building marketplace, with GBCs in approximately 100 countries. It serves as a united nations of GBCs, helping to incubate new Councils and sharing best GBC practices, rating systems, data and new models for collaborative acceleration of global transformation.

David has received numerous leadership awards, including the inaugural WorldGBC Global Green Building Entrepreneurship Award in 2011:  the annual Award is now given out in Gottfried’s name, as is the Northern CA Chapter of USGBC’s annual Super Hero award. He received a lifetime achievement award from the Building Industry Conference Board, and serves as a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council. Gottfried sits on the advisory board of 10 venture-backed start-ups. He has been a global keynote speaker since 1998. Gottfried has published two memoirs: Greed to Green: The Transformation of an industry and a life, and Greening My Life. His third book, The Explosion of Green Building will be released at Greenbuild Philadelphia in November 2013.Gottfried’s former residence was the highest rated LEED Platinum home in the world.

Gottfried lives with his family in Berkeley, CA. He recently expanded his creativity into modern art painting. His wife, Dr. Sara Gottfried, is a renown global hormone expert and her visionary book, The Hormone Cure, was a New York Times bestseller.
