The Fortune Teller’s Prophecy by Lally Pia, MD
Publication Date: April 30, 2024

A searing examination of the immigrant experience, The Fortune Teller’s Prophecy is Lally Pia’s tale of resilience in the face of a bungled Green Card—a four-continent quest to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor.

“Lally’s memoir is a testament to both the intense work it takes to achieve [the American Dream] and the sacrifices she made that would be unthinkable to the average American fortunate enough to be born into that dream. The writing is clean and concise and reads like a conversation rather than a series of events . . . Excellent, excellent work. Very highly recommended.” —Readers’ Favorite, 5-star review

“An intriguing, emotionally powerful, and culturally informative read.” —Kirkus Reviews

The Girl with Three Birthdays by Patti Eddington
Publication Date: May 7, 2024

The brief “Report of Investigation” contained inside the thin, manila envelope that landed in Patti Eddington’s mailbox after almost six decades locked in a courthouse vault looked unassuming—but the adoption document unleashed a heartbreaking, emotional tempest that led her to question everything she ever believed about her beloved parents and her childhood, and use her journalistic chops to go digging for the truth.

The Girl With Three Birthdays is riveting and mysterious, a story that will draw readers in as it pulls at their heart strings.” —BookLife Reviews

Sunday Money by Maggie Hill
Publication Date: May 14, 2024

It’s 1971, but for Claire Joyce and girls’ basketball, it might as well be 1871. Stilted rules (three-bounce dribbling, two roving players for full-court games, and uniforms that include bloomers) set their play unfairly apart from the boys’ basketball Claire’s older brother John has trained her in.

Basketball is the only constant in Claire life, and as she enters her teen years the skills she’s cultivated on the court—passing, shooting, and faking—help her guard against the chaos of an alcoholic mother, an increasingly violent younger brother, and the downward spiral her beloved John soon finds himself unable to climb out of. Deeply cut from the cloth of the Catholic Church, Brooklyn’s working class, and the limited expectations her world has for girls, Claire strives to find a mirror that might reflect a different, future self. Then Title IX bounces on the scene. Suddenly, girls’ basketball becomes explosive, musical, passionate, and driven—and if Claire plays it just right, it just might offer a full ride to a previously out-of-reach college.

California Dreaming by Noa Silver
Publication Date: May 21, 2024

This millennial bildungsroman follows Elena’s journey in the SF Bay Area from an idealistic Teach for America teacher to a disillusioned project manager at a tech company. Amid the Occupy and Me Too movements, the 2016 election, and California’s ever-worsening fire season, Elena must ultimately reconcile the person she envisioned herself to be and the person she actually is.

“In this tender debut novel, Noa Silver takes the reader back in time to one of those magical eras in Berkeley when young people, powered by their own idealism and multigenerational dreams, believed they could change the world. Fast-moving and unflaggingly engaging, California Dreaming tells a coming of age story that we need more than ever to hold close to our hearts.” —Barbara Quick, author of What Disappears
